Processes

BmoreSpore aims to maintain the highest standard for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. All processes related to the growing mushrooms are transparently laid out below. Details on exact procedures can be found in our operational handbook, here (in development).

Petri Dish Experiment

Substrate & Spawn Sourcing

All substrate is sourced from the company, Mushroom Media Online. The oyster mushroom and lions mane mushrooms are both grown on the masters mix, which is a 50/50 mixture of oak and soy pellets, designed to produce nutritious and fast-fruiting mushrooms.

As of today (6.5.2025), the spawn is sourced from the company North Spore, but we plan on transitioning to fully home-sourced spawn within the next couple months.

Sterilization and Inoculation

The substrates, once hydrated to 60% water weight, are sterilized in heat-resistant autoclavable bags, then sterilized at 15 PSI for at least 2 hours in order to eliminate any contaminants. The bagged substrate is then inoculated with grain spawn under a laminar flow hood and sealed with an impulse heater.

The Colonization

The sealed bags are then left in the colonization room to for two to four weeks of healthy mycelial colonization. Any bags showing signs of contamination are immediately discarded.

The Fruiting Room

Once the mushrooms are ready to fruit, they are moved to the growing facility, which is controlled for temperature, humidity, lighting, and air flow to maintain optimal fruiting conditions. The grow rooms are cleaned on a regular basis to ensure sterility.
